Why is everyone talking plastics?

Recycling waste is becoming a “must do” and plastic waste is among the best. So what’s caused the sudden rise in plastic baler sales, let’s take a look at a few possibilities.

Plastics & recycling have been in the news everywhere for a very long time and it’s not because everyone has a solution for managing it. Recycled plastic has enjoyed some popularity in recent times, which is great news for certain individuals within the waste industry. That being said it doesn’t mean you can’t earn a penny or two from baling. It has been known that PET bottles have reached £180 per tonne, whilst coloured PET bottles have hit a peak of £75 per tonne – these figures haven’t been seen since 2013.

LDPE film (Low-density polyethylene for those who don’t know) once reached £330 per tonne, while there was some comparable news for HDPE bottle prices. Perhaps no shock that plastic packaging recyclables are also reaching new peaks, 2016 volumes were up almost 25%.

Of course we all know that recyclables prices have highs and lows like a yoyo, so what will 2017 bring? So far this year HDPE mixed colour bottles have hit a high of £140 a tonne.
